Schools remain shut due to fuel crisis in Nepal

Kathmandu, Feb 18 (UNI) More than a dozen schools here remained closed today due to the ongoing crisis in petroleum products.

The schools could not run buses to ferry the students from their homes because of the fuel shortage, vice president of Private and Boarding School's Organisation of Nepal (PABSON) Lakshya Bahadur KC told the local media.

Expressing serious concern over the government's negligence to the current crisis, Mr Bahadur said, ''the entire schools in the capital will be forced to close down from tomorrow if the situation does not improve.'' The PABSON vice president urged the government for smooth supply of petroleum products and has demanded an alternative arrangement to the current fuel supply system, the Kantipur reported.

The government on Friday had assured that it will talk with fuel tanker operators and resume normal supply of petroleum products from Saturday.

The number of vehicles plying the streets has significantly thinned due to the crisis, the report said.
