Protests against 'Jodha Akbar' in MP town

Mandsaur, MP, Feb 18 (UNI) Protests continued against the screening of Hrithik-Aishwarya starrer 'Jodha Akbar' in this district adjoining Rajasthan following the Rajput community's allegation that the movie ''distorted the facts of the history''.

Police said members of the Rajput community staged a demonstration at Shreeji Mandir cinema house in front of Kotwali police station yesterday, burnt the posters, pelted stones at the cinema house and broke its windowpanes.

The agitators alleged that the film presented history in a ''distorted manner''.

City Superintendent of Police Anand Rao said the situation was brought into control immediately. Two shows were cancelled due to the incident. However, the night show was screened.

Historian Manohar Singh Ranawat, who is also the Deputy Director at the Natnagar Research Institute, demanded a ban on the film claiming that historical evidence was available to establish that Mughal Emperor Akbar married Raja Bharmal's daughter Harkhabai.

He said Manibai, who was also known as Jodhabai, was the daughter of Jodhpur King Motiraja Uday Singh. She had married Jahangir and was the mother of Shah Jahan.

Dr Ranawat said presenting Akbar's daughter-in-law Jodha as his wife did not conform with history.
