NHRC notice to Mah Govt on violence against North Indians

New Delhi, Feb 18 (UNI) Taking cognisance of reports about violence against Bihar migrants in Maharashtra, the National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to the state government seeking a report within four weeks.

The Commission has asked the State Chief Secretary to respond to the notice.

According to the February 14 media reports, a large number of people from Bihar working in Maharashtrahad fled due to terror and violence by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers.

The report said Sanjiv Singh who fled Nasik with his family was beaten up and the women of the family were molested by the MNS workers.

''They were threatened by the MNS workers to lave the state or face consequences,'' it added.

Another person Rehman Bhai also alleged that MNS activists threatened them, it said, adding that both the people had alleged ''inaction'' by the state government against the MNS activists.

Koirala urges for unity among democratic forces in Nepal
