Mauritius PM unveils statue of Seewoosagur Ramgoolam in Patna



Patna, Feb 18 : Mauritius Prime Minister Navin chandra Ramgoolam who is on a three-day visit to Bihar unveiled a larger-than-life-size bronze statue of the first Premier of Mauritius, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, here at Gandhi Maidan.

After unveiling the statue, Ramgoolam thanked Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, for putting up a statue of his late father in Bihar.

On being asked by the media, how did he feel about coming to Bihar, he said, "It feels great. It feels even though I have been away from Bihar, its like coming home."

Meanwhile, Nitish said, "Ramgoolam visit would help in strengthening our relations with Mauritius. I hope that travel between the two countries continues in the same manner," said Nitish Kumar.

On Tuesday, Ramgoolam will visit Siwan to offer prayers at a local Hanuman Temple.

The Prime Minister will also visit Harigaon in Bhojpur District, his ancestral village.

He will visit Nalanda and Gaya before leaving for Delhi on Wednesday.

Ramgoolam's father Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam originally hailed from Bihar and was Prime Minister of the island nation from 1961-82.
