HC summons DCP on Feb 25

New Delhi, Feb 18 (UNI) Delhi High Court today directed Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) to appear on February 25 in a case of placement agencies exploiting the domestic helps.

Justice Vikramjit Sen and P K Bhasin taking a serious note of the laid back attitude of the police ordered the DCP to appear before the court on February 25 and explain the tardiness.

The Court has directed the Delhi police to obtain a list of employers of minor domestic helps from placement agencies in the capital to find out the nature of exploitation, if any, these children were subjected to by the employers and the agencies.

However, when the counsel for the state argued before the court, the judges said the action left much to be desired. Only the DCP (south) can explain it, they added.

A non-government organisation, 'Shramajivi Mahila Sansthan' had moved the court accusing certain placement agencies in the capital of trafficking girls and boys from West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar besides forcing them into the sex racket in the name of employment as domestic helps.

The counsel for the petitioner had also accused the placement agencies of deducting half the amount from the wages of these children.
