Sydney, Feb.18 : Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist may have broken his thumb during the closing stages of last night's one day win over India at Adelaide Oval.

However Australian coach Tim Nielsen believes Gilchrist will carry on for the rest of the series regardless of the result of x-rays he will likely undergo in Perth in the next three days.

The Australians flew out to their respective homes this morning following their bonus point victory over India, and will take three days off before playing Sri Lanka at the MCG on Friday.

Nielsen, a former state wicketkeeper himself, was quoted by the Sydney Morning Herald as saying that Gilchrist's thumb had been sore this morning, but doubted the problem would be serious enough to deny him the final few appearances of his international career.

"I spoke to the physio this morning, it was a bit sore last night and we'll wait to see how he pulls up," Nielsen said today.

"'Keepers are a pretty tough breed as well so he'll be right, hopefully over the next couple of days he'll have an x-ray that shows there's no fracture.

"You'd be a brave man to tell him he's not playing the rest of the series, so until we know more about it, unless it's pretty much chopped off, he'll be right," said Nielsen.
