Gandhinagar gets rail connectivity with New Delhi

Gandhinagar, Feb 18 (UNI) With completion of new rail link between Gandhinagar and Kalol, Union Minister of State for Railways Naran J Rathva today expressed hope that the Gujrat capital would get connectivity with New Delhi, thereby redressing the woes of North Indians.

He inaugurated Gandhinagar-Kalol broad gauge section and new station building for Gandhinagar, and flagged off a train.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Mr Rathva said the new route would facilitate people going to northern parts of the country. With this new rail link, the state capital's surface transport facility will increase.

Gandhinagar MP and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Lal Krishna Advani, Union Textiles Minister Shankersinh Vaghela and senior railways officials were present at the function.

Mr Advani, in his brief speech, expressed happiness over the new rail link connecting state capital with the national capital.

Poor voter turnout marks Rae Bareli LS bypoll

Rae Bareli, May 8: Nearly 42.6 per cent of the voters today exercised their franchise in the byelection for the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat, for which Congress President Sonia Gandhi is seeking re-election.Polling in the high-profile constituency, which began on a brisk note in the morning, however, lost steam by afternoon.The Election Commission had increased the poll timings by an hour.The poll turnout was less than the 2004 general elections when Ms Gandhi was elected.....
