DefExpo-2008: F-16IN, C-130J right choices for India

New Delhi, Feb 18: Battle proven multi role fighter F-16IN and world's most advanced and agile tactical air lifter C-130J Super Hercules are the right choices for India to meet its defence requirements, Lockheed Martin said today. Speaking at the fifth DefExpo-2008 here, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics vice president Orville Prins said F-16IN was specifically designed to meet or exceed for India's Medium Multi Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) requirements and provide even greater frontline capability with bottom line reliability.

He said the fighter aircraft has logged millions of flight hours under the full range of climatic conditions and operational environments and forged unsurpassed successful partnerships. Mr Prins said C-130J's reputation for effectiveness, readiness and safety continued to grow as does its prospects for international sales. ''We are proud that India chose C-130J to meet its airlift needs. They (India) will soon join the ranks of seven countries who experience first hand the outstanding capabilities of C-130J Super Hercules,'' he added.

The seven countries were the US, the UK, Italy, Denmark, Australia, Norway and Canada.

With its heavy lift capability, advanced cockpit avionics and unmatched versatility in adverse terrain and flying conditions, C-130J Super Hercules could meet or exceed India's unique requirements for an advanced tactical air lifter, Mr Prins said.

He said F-16IN and C-130J have inherent capabilities that were an excellent match with the long-term requirements for military aircraft in India.

Lockheed Martin has submitted an F-16IN proposal in response to India's MMRCA programme requirement.

At the fifth edition of DefExpo-2008 here, Lockheed Martin is highlighting the growing strategic military relationship between the United States and India.
