CPI as AP CM to take cue from Goa counterpart

Hyderabad, Feb 18 (UNI) The Communist Party of India will step up its agitation to ensure that all poor people got cultiable lands and housing sites, its floor leader Ch Venkata Reddy said today.

Participating in an inconclusive debate on the motion of thanks for the Governor's address, he vehemently opposed taking away of fertile farm lands for setting up Special Economic Zones and urged Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy to take the cue from his Goa counterpart.

It was the CPI, which distributed over 10,000 acres of land to the poor during the Nizam rule, he claimed, asserting that the CPI would identify surplus lands and ensure their occupation by the poor.

Taking part in the debate, CPI(M) floor leader N Narasimaiah claimed credit for the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee(NRE GS) Scheme by the ruling Congess. It was because of the pressure exerted by the CPI(M), the scheme was included in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA)'s Common Minimum Programme(CMP), he said.

He demanded that tribals must be given title rights over land up to 10 acres. The Government had no no view on development of Telangana or other backward regions, he claimed, adding the Governor's address was silent on fight against corruption which was rampant in the state now now.

Alleging that law and order had broken down in the state, BJP Floor leader G Kishan Reddy alleged that Hyderabad had turned into a hub for terrorist activities.
