BHEL bags Rs 650 cr contract in Libya

New Delhi, Feb 18: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) today said it has won a Rs 650 crore contract for setting up a 300 MW gas turbine-based power plant in Libya. BHEL will establish the Western Mountain Power Extension Project, comprising two units of 150 MW each, for General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis, a BHEL spokesman told the sources today.

The order is the extension of the 600 MW (4x150 MW) Western Mountain Gas project. The equipment will be supplied from BHEL's manufacturing units at Hardwar, Bhopal, Jhansi, Bangalore, Chennai and Ranipet. BHEL's Power Sector Division will carry out the overall engineering of the project and execute all site activities, including erection and commissioning of the plant.

BHEL's power generating sets achieve high PLF

New Delhi, May 21: BHEL-built power generating sets generated a record 432.81 billion units of electricity during 2006-07, 7.5 per cent more than the previous year. This constituted 73 per cent of the country's total power generation and contributed substantially in narrowing the gap between demand and supply of power, a BHEL spokesman said here today.
