Auto drivers stage novel protest against oil price hike

Madurai, Feb 18 (UNI) In a novel protest against hike in the prices of petrol and diesel, members of the Autorickshaw Drivers Association, affiliated to the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) pulled an auto with a rope in a procession through the important streets here today.

Led by Association's District President K Nanda Singh, the members shouted slogans against the hike in oil prices in the procession. The agitators urged the Centre to immediately withdraw the hike.

Salt Lake City, Jun 18: A convicted murderer, Ronnie Lee Gardner was executed by a firing squad on Friday, Jun 18 in Utah. He was the third person executed by firing in more than three decades. Gardner was strapped into a chair where a team of five marksmen aimed their guns at the white target pinned to his chest. Gardner was convicted of the murder of an attorney in 1985 while he was trying to flee a Utah.....

Nigerian delta militants release Italian hostages

Port Harcourt, Nigeria, Mar 15: Nigerian militants today released two Italian oil workers they had been holding hostage in remote creeks in the oil-producing Niger Delta for more than three months.The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), which demands greater autonomy for Africa's top oil province, had seized the employees of oil company Saipem, a unit of ENI, in a raid on an oil export terminal on Dec 7.MEND, which emerged in late 2005 and forced the closure.....
