AAPSU gives 'black day' call on Statehood Day

Itanagar, Feb 18 (UNI) The All Arunachal Pradesh Student's Union (AAPSU) will observe the Statehood Day on February 20 as 'Black Day' protesting against government's failure to rescue the 39 youths, allegedly kidnapped by the NSCN(K) recently from Tirap district.

AAPSU president Kanu Bagang said here today that the organisation will go ahead with a phase-wise bandh call starting with 12-hour on February 29, a 24-hour on February 29 and will continue till the demands were met.

The agitation was announced after a ten-day ultimatum to the state government by the AAPSU, which expired on Saturday.

Lamenting over the failure of the Central and state governments in controlling the deteriorating situation in Tirap and Changlang districts, Mr Bagang stated that of late the two districts have turned into a hot bed of extortion, kidnapping and terrorist activities.

The agitation aimed at reminding the state and Central governments their responsibility in providing safety and security to the people, he said.

As part of its agitation, the AAPSU would also observe social boycott against the sale of Nagaland goods in the state, including ban on the movement of all modes of transport, Mr Bagang added.
