1 killed, 17 children injured as van overturns

Chennai, Feb 18 (UNI) A driver of a private school was killed and 17 children sustained injuries, when the van in which they were travelling overturned at Ammapalayam village in Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu today.

Police said the van was carrying about 50 students of Gopalan Himalaya Higher Secondary School from five surrounding villages when the mishap occurred.

The van driver Anandan was killed on the spot and the injured students were admitted to a hospital.

Salt Lake City, Jun 18: A convicted murderer, Ronnie Lee Gardner was executed by a firing squad on Friday, Jun 18 in Utah. He was the third person executed by firing in more than three decades. Gardner was strapped into a chair where a team of five marksmen aimed their guns at the white target pinned to his chest. Gardner was convicted of the murder of an attorney in 1985 while he was trying to flee a Utah.....

Port Harcourt, Nigeria, Mar 15: Nigerian militants today released two Italian oil workers they had been holding hostage in remote creeks in the oil-producing Niger Delta for more than three months.The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), which demands greater autonomy for Africa's top oil province, had seized the employees of oil company Saipem, a unit of ENI, in a raid on an oil export terminal on Dec 7.MEND, which emerged in late 2005 and forced the closure.....
