Wheat sown in 277.31 lakh hectare this year

New Delhi, Feb 15 (UNI) The Union Agriculture Ministry today said wheat has been sown in 277.31 lakh hectare area this year as compared to 282.14 lakh hectare area last year.

The area under winter rice is 34.1 lakh ha as against 32.41 lakh ha last year, a release said here.

Coarse cereals have been sown in 67.89 lakh ha as compared to 70.48 lakh ha by this time in 2007. Barley and maize have been grown in more areas than last year; barley in 7.54 lakh ha and maize in 10.35 lakh ha. Rabi oilseeds have been sown in 89.46 lakh ha as compared to 96.95 lakh ha last year, it said.

Rabi pulses cover 133.36 lakh ha as against 139.49 lakh ha last year. Gram has been sown in 80.29 lakh ha as compared to 83.86 lakh ha by this time last year, the release added.
