V P Singh files petition against Reliance Energy

Allahabad, Feb 15 (UNI) Former Prime Minister V P Singh has filed a writ petition in the Allahabad High Court challenging the acquisition of land by UP government at Ghaziabad for gas based power project by the Reliance Energy Generation Ltd.

According to the petition, 903.449 hectare land of about seven villages of the Ghaziabad district was acquired by the UP government by dispossessing the farmers from their agriculture land.

A division bench consisting of Chief Justice H L Gokhle and Justice Vineet Saran passed this order on a writ petition filed by former the Prime Minister.

The Court after hearing the parties, directed to hear the petition along with other connected writ petitions filed by the farmers of Ghaziabad, where the land was acquired.

Mr Singh has challenged the notifications on February 11, 2004 and June 29, 2004 issued by the state government, by which the land was acquired.

Bus kills woman, injures motorcyclist

New Delhi, Feb 15 (UNI) A 50-year-old woman died after the motorcycle she was riding on was hit by a speeding bus in Malviya Nagar area of South Delhi.
