Jammu, Feb 15: Two agents of Pakistan's Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) were sentenced to 17 years imprisonment by a local court here.
Principal Sessions Judge J R Kotwal yesterday awarded 17 years imprisonment to the two ISI agents -- Mohd Aslam alias Zahoor Ahmed and Manzoor Ahmed alias Umar -- both residents of Pakistan, who were arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir police while moving under suspicious circumstances in Bishnah area.
During the course of investigation, it was found that the duo entered India illegally, sources added.
On the disclosure by Mohd Aslam, police also recovered two AK-56 rifles, three grenades, six magazines, 180 rounds of AK-rifles, three bombs and five PTD pencils from a hideout.
Meanwhile, while an AK-56 Rifle with silencer, six magazines, 160 rounds, three grenades, two bombs, four detonators and five PTD pencils were recovered after the disclosures by Manzoor Ahmed.
After the investigation was over, cases under the Enemy Agents Ordinance, Explosive Substances Act and Foreigners Act were filed against both the accused.
After hearing Public Prosecutor E A Tak and Advocate Rupak Ratta, appearing for the accused, the Principal Sessions Judge observed that offence committed by both the accused are heinous.
''They had crossed the Indo-Pak border illegally with lethal weapons and ammunition to create terror in Jammu and Kashmir at the instance of Pakistan's ISI and militant groups based there.'' Each of the accused was sentenced to undergo concurrently the imprisonment for terms of 10 years under the Enemy Agent Ordinance, five years under the Explosive Substances Act and two years under the Foreigners Act.
