Two accused of violation of R P Act in Tripura

Agartala, Feb 15 (UNI) Tripura state poll panel has recommended judicial action against two people allegedly belonging to ruling CPI (M), who were detained with 95 Electoral Photo ID Cards (EPIC) in two separate locations in West and Dhalai district of the state.

Talking to media here today, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) G S G Ayyangar said police had arrested one Taliram Reang of Chawmanu area with 76 EPICs and another Biru Debbarma was arrested along with 19 EPICs last week in Krishnapur area and afte initial investigation found them guilty.

''The matters have been investigated thoroughly and ECI's opinion was sought. Finally, we decided that both the persons had violated section 123 of the Representation of Peoples' (RP) Act, 1951, and so they would face the judicial action,'' Dr Ayyangar said, adding, that as per the law anybody trying to influence the election process is using a corrupt practice.

Meanwhile, police said recently a group of BNCT extremists had forcibly taken away the two EPICs from the tribal tribal dominated Tuai Chandra Para area of Dhalai district, which was the fourth EPIC snatching incident in Tripura in the past three weeks after the announcement of mandatory provision of production of EPICs in the polling booths for exercising the franchise in the state.

The CEO, however, assured on the alternative arrangements for casting votes for those who did not have the EPICs.

NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter in safe mode after unexpected rebooting

Washington, June 6 (ANI): NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter is in safe mode and in communications with Earth after an unexpected rebooting of its computer on the evening of June 3.The spontaneous reboot resembles a February 23 event on the spacecraft.Engineers concluded that the most likely cause for that event was a cosmic ray or solar particle hitting electronics and causing an erroneous voltage reading.According to Jim Erickson, Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter project manager at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory,.....
