Police rescue kidnapped boy

Bangalore, Feb 15 (UNI) The city police have arrested a person who allegedly kidnapped a five-year-old boy for ransom.

Speaking to newspersons here, city Police Commissioner N Achyutha Rao said Chandan was kidnapped on Tuesday last from his house at Muthyala Nagar in Yeshwanthpur police limits.

The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Rs 25,000 from the boy's parents and threatened to kill him if it was not delivered. They had also threatened the boy's father of dire consequences, if the matter was reported to the police.

However, the parents, who failed to realise the ransom amount, informed the police. A trap was laid to nab the culprits near a public telephone booth, from where the parents received calls for money.

A special police team nabbed the culprit Sanjay, a painter by profession hailing from West Bengal. The accused was also a tenant of the complainant.

The police then located the boy from a locality, where he was being kept.

Sanjay's wife, who had allegedly helped her husband in the crime, was, however, absconding. The police have launched a hunt to arrest her.

1044 computerised bank branches to accept Advance Income Tax

Mumbai, Feb 15 (UNI) The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has made arrangements for accepting advance income tax with as many as 1,044 computerised branches of public and private sector banks being opened for the convenience of the income tax assesses. Of the 1,044 branches, 986 branches are of public sector banks, while 30 are of HDFC Bank, nine of ICICI Bank and 19 of AXIS Bank, the RBI stated in a release here today......

Port employee drowned

Visakhapatnam, Feb 15 (UNI) An employee at Visakhapatnam Port Trust who was working on a vessel 'KANAKA', accidentally fell into the sea and drowned early today. Accorlding to police the mishap occurred when the vessel was hit by a Tug. The body of the 52 year-old employee Krishna Rao, was yet to be recovered from the waters. Family causes flutter near French Consulate

Puducherry, Feb 15 (UNI) A family, hailing from Velrampet here, caused a flutter when it staged a dharna in front of the French Consulate here today. According to police, Gunakaran and Amudha, along with their children, staged the dharna to protest the reported failure of the Consulate to hand over documents pertaining to their nationality.
