PM burnt in effigy over hike in fuel prices

Lucknow, Feb 15 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha burnt Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi in effigy to protest the hike in petrol and diesel prices here today.

The BJP Yuva Morcha led procession started from the party office and went upto the busy Kaiserbagh crossing.

''The hike in fuel prices would not only increase the prices of essential commodities, but also put an additional burden on the common man,'' Party's media in charge Mukesh Sharma said.

He further charged that the fuel prices were soaring rapidly under the Congress led-UPA regime at the Centre.

'' The increase in fuel prices will lead to the inflation rate shooting up,'' Mr Sharma underlined.

India drop one place in FIFA World rankings for Feb

Mumbai, Feb 15 (UNI) India has dropped one place in the February FIFA/Coca Cola world ranking to 145, while it stays on the same 27th place in the Asian Zone rankings, released by FIFA today. In the world rankings, Argentina continues to occupy the top spot closely followed by its neighbour, Brazil and Italy in the third spot, with just a few points separating the three teams. Veterans Table Tennis Championship from Feb 21

Jalandhar, Feb 15 (UNI) Punjab Table Tennis Association (PTTA) in collaboration with Table Tennis Federation of India is organising the Veterans Table Tennis Championship here from February 21-24. PTTA vice president Viney Gupta told media persons that over 500 master players from 32 states and institutional members are expected to participate in the championship. Mr Gupta informed that the main team championship trophy has been named as Emaar MGF Cup for Master's National Table Tennis.....

Macca, Mills' divorce battle to continue next week

London, February 15 : Sir Paul McCartney's bitter divorce battle with his estranged wife Heather Mills, which was expected to end today, will continue next week. Court officials have revealed that the hearing on Mills's demands over Sir Paul's reputed 825million-pound fortune and who will take custody and care of their four-year-old daughter Beatrice has been scheduled for Monday. They said that Justice Bennett, who is presiding over the hearing, would decide during the hearing whether he has heard.....
