Pathology centres raided, 25 blood donors held

Varanasi, Feb 15 (UNI) Police today raided two pathology centres in the city and arrested as many as 25 blood donors.

The raids were conducted in the pathology centres at Sigra and Maduadih area with the assistance of Chief Medical Officer Dr Haleem.

The locals had complained that some people, especially addicts, came to these pathologies to donate their blood.

The arrested confessed that they sell their blood for money.

Meanwhile, the police has sealed both the centres and lodged FIRs against their absconding owners.

CPI protests petrol, diesel prices hike

Kolhapur, Feb 15 (UNI) Communist Party of India (CPI), Kolhapur unit, workers today staged demonstrations at the city's busy Shivaji square to protest against the hike in petrol and diesel prices. One more succumbs to injuries in bus accident

Mumbai, Feb 15 (UNI) Two people, including a woman, were killed and two others injured when a BEST bus hit them near the Star Plus office at Marol Naka in western parts of the city today. The identities of the deceased, a 32-year-old woman who died on the spot and a 50-year-old man who succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, were yet to be ascertained. Their bodies have been kept at the Cooper hospital.....

JNUSU, FDI petition PM for compensation to ''police victim''

New Delhi, Feb 15 (UNI) The JNUSU and the Forum for Democratic Initiatives (FDI) have petitioned Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for compensation to Aftab Alam Ansari, who was wrongly accused of being involved in the November serial blasts in UP courts. They demanded that Aftab be compensated without having to resort to a legal battle and action be taken against police officials who tortured him in detention.
