Norms for issuing disability certificate to be relaxed soon

New Delhi, Feb 15 (UNI) The disabled would no more have to run from pillar to post to get the disability certificate as the Government was soon going to relax the norms for issuing such documents.

Under the amended rules be notified in a week or two, except in case of government jobs or admission to professional courses, the procedure for issuing the disability certificate would be simplfied .

For minor benefits like getting a child admitted in school, obtaining Barialle books etc, and for obvious disabilities like amputation, loss of sight where the disabilities were quite visible, it would now not take much time to get the certificate.

At present, there is a Board at the district level that can issue such a certificate. However, under the proposed new rules bodies at the block and panchayat level too could do the job if the disability was of a visible kind.

The simplified procedure has been suggested by a committee constituted by the Social Justice and Empowerment ministry.

Addidional Secretray of the, Ministrty Dr Sandeep Khanna today asked for the input of State Commissioiners for persons With Disabilities at a conference here today.

He expressed hope that the new procedure if implemented in a campaign mode would redress the grievances of the disabled persons to a great extent.

She emphasised the need of having independent state commissioners. Ms Chotray also announced operationalisation of the incentive scheme for private sector employer for providing job to disabled persons, under which the entire employer contribution of the EPF/ESIC for three years would be borne by the Centre.
