K'taka: Police rescues kidnapped boy

Bangalore, Feb 15: City police have arrested one person here last night and is looking for his wife who allegedly kidnapped a five-year-old boy for a ransom of Rs 25000 .

Speaking to newspersons, the city Police Commissioner, N Achyuth Rao, said that the five-year-old boy Chandan was kidnapped on Tuesday from his house from Muthyala Nagar in Yeshwanthpur police limits.

The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Rs 25000 from the boy's parents and threatened to kill him if ransom money was not delivered at a specific place. The accused also threatened the boy'father of dare consequences if the matter was reported to the police.

However, the parents, who failed to mobilise the ransom money brought the incident to the notice of the police. A trap was laid to nab the culprits near a public telephone booth from where the aggrieved parents received calls for money.

After successful manoeuvres, the special police team nabbbed the culprit Sanjay, a painter by profession and was a resident of West Bengal. The accused was also a tenant of the complainant and after developing acquaintance with the boy, kidnapped him for ransom money.

The police after arresting Sanjay, located the boy from a locality where he was kept in his safe custody The Sanjay's wife, who has allegedly associated with her husband in the crime was, however, absconding. Police have launched a hunt to arrest her, the Commissioner added.
