HC fines authorities for delay in filing affidavit

Kolkata, Feb 15 (UNI) Calcutta High Court today slammed a fine of 100 gems(counts about Rs 1,700) on authorities for its delay in replying to a lawsuit challenging the fund for maintenance of Netaji's remains at Renkoji temple in Japan.

A two-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Surinder Singh Nijjar, asked the government to file an afidavit before the Court immediately.

Two lawyers - A Ganguly and S Bose - filed a suit before the Court in mid-2006 saying that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's disappearance before the world War-II still remained a mystry.

The Mukherjee Commission, set by the Central government to investigate into the mystery, also concluded in its findings that Netaji was not killed in a plane crash as believed by many across the world.

The petitioners said the government was yet to place the report before Parliament and sought the Court's intervention to make it public.
