Delimitation process to scuttle Trinamool:Mamata

Kolkata, Feb 15 (UNI) Decrying the Union Cabinet's approval to new delimitation of Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today alleged that it was a joint move of the Centre and the West Bengal Government to scuttle the electoral prospects of her party.

''The delimitation has been done in such a way that the Trinamool Congress does not get even a single seat. But I accept the challenge.

The Centre and the state Government will not be able to do any harm to us,'' she told reporters.

The Union Cabinet decided yesterday to go in for the new delimitation by approving the recommendation of the Kuldip Singh Commission on Delimitation.

Alleging that government machinary had been misused in getting done the delimitation of constituencies, Ms Banerjee said the people of the state would frustrate the agenda behind it.

She announced that the Trinamool Congress would put up one-hour road blockade all over the state on February 17 in protest against the increase in the prices of petrol and diesel.

Ridiculing the CPI(M) for its opposition to the price hike, the Trinamool chief asked why was the Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee government not withdrawing the cess on petrol, imposed in the state.

''The CPI(M) does not have the right to launch any agitation against the hike in petrol price. The people will at least get some relief if the cess on petrol is rolled back in the state,'' she said.
