'Communists always have ideological differences'

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 15: Stating that the differences of opinion in the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Kerala unit were resolved in the 19th state party conference, Kerala Chief Minister and CPI(M) politburo member V S Achuthanandan today said Communists would always have ideological differences, which could be sorted out through discussions.

There could be ideological differences with the Union and State Governments and issues with other parties, he said after a Cabinet briefing.

Asked if factionalism had ended after the party conference, which concluded yesterday at Kottayam, Mr Achuthanandan said ''the media has written on different types of factionalism. The issues that could be sorted out through discussions have been resolved.'' The local issues that came up before the Politburo were being sorted out, he added.

On whether personal differences had given way to ideological differences in the party, he said a Communist always had ideological differences and these would be sorted out through discussions.

On the chaos in the public meeting organised as part of the party conference while he was speaking, he said he did not know anything about it.

3-day-old baby mauled to death by stray dog

Kottayam, May 23: In a gruesome incident, a new born infant was mauled by a stray dog at Manarcadu here yesterday.According to the police, the local people in the area found the body of the baby being dragged by the dog.The postmortem revealed that the body was of a three-day-old baby girl, the sources said, adding the baby was suffocated to death immediately after its birth.It was suspected that the baby might have been abandoned by.....
