ART centre to be set up at GCH, Sect-32

Chandigarh, Feb 15 (UNI) The Chandigarh Administration has decided to set up a new Anti-Retroviral Treatment (ART) Centre at Government College and Hospital, Sector 32.

The city already has one ART Centre which was started in 2005 at Department of Internal Medicine, PGIMER, Chandigarh. As GMCH fulfills the criteria of manpower and infrastructure, it was decided to have an additional ART Centre there in view of the number of patients.

Till now, total patients enrolled for ART are 2016 and patient on ART are 1297.

Most of the patients in these centres come from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Chandigarh.

Haryana has only one ART Centre in Rohtak district, which is on the other side of the state and thus setting up of ART Centre in GMCH 32, Chandigarh will be able to provide ART services to the patients from Haryana and Himachal at a convenient distance. The new ART Centre will also help in decreasing the work load of existing ART centre at PGIMER.

Medicine Department of Government Medical College, Sector 32, is already providing its services to AIDS patient from year 1999.

Till now, 337 AIDS patients have received treatment at GMCH 32.

'Live bomb found in Nagpur's Crescent hospital'
