Aided school staff union to start statewide agitation

Rupnagar, Feb 15 (UNI) Punjab State Aided School Teachers and Other Employees Union today decided to launch a statewide agitation to protest against the alleged indifferent attitude of the state government towards its demands.

Union president Gurcharan Singh Chahal and press secretary Ashwani Kumar Sharma said in a statement issued here that the decision was taken during a meeting of the state executive of the union held today adding that a 15-member committee had been formed for spearheading the agitation.

They said in the first phase of the agitation, a state-level protest demonstration would be organised on February 23 in Sultanpur Lodhi, the home constituency of Education Minister Upinderjit Kaur.

They alleged that the Akali Dal-BJP government was giving step- motherly treatment to the aided schools had failed to fulfill its promises made in the manifesto regarding aided school staff during last assembly election which included restoration of pension scheme, lifting of ban on recruitment and providing increased medical allowance and interim relief.

They demanded that government must immediately invite the union leaders for discussing the demands and warned that if the government failed to address the demands, the union would be forced to intensify its agitation.

Nagaland: President to visit Kohima March 15

Kohima, Mar 14:  President A P J Abdul Kalam will arrive here tomorrow to grace the second Convocation of Nagaland University, official sources today said.The President would land at Assam Rifles helipad at around 1400 hrs and immediately drive to attend the convocation at Secretriat Plaza here.Altogether 12,981 students would be awarded degree in various discipline in the convocation.Dr Kalam would then interact with the students of the Government Higher Secondary School here at 1700.....
