Adattu panchayat wins Swaraj trophy

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 15 (UNI) The sleepy Adattu in Thrissur district that successfully implemented 'organic farm village' project has been selected as the best gram panchayat in Kerala.

Announcing the award, Local Administration Minister Paloli Mohammedkutty told newspersons here that Adattu panchayat would get a cash award of Rs five lakh, Swaraj trophy and a special project assistance worth Rs 25 lakh for its outstanding performance in the year 2005-06.

He said the panchayat, which won the award for the third time, had utilised 96 per cent of the funds meant for development activities and achieved 100 per cent tax collection.

During the current financial year also, the panchayat utilised 96 per cent of the plan fund till February eight.

Besides successfully implementing the first organic village, the panchayat implemented water supply schemes covering the entire population, took steps to prevent soil erosion and implemented a number of welfare schemes.

The Minister said the award would be given away at a function to be organised in Kozhikode on February 19, coinciding with the panchayat day celebrations.

US' pharmaceutical company obtains licensing rights from IMTECH
