AAPWU demands minimum wages for workers

Itanagar, Feb 15 (UNI) The All Arunachal Pradesh Workers Union(AAPWU) has demanded the state government to provide minimum wages to the labourers as per the Minimum Wages Act, 1948.

In a memorandum to the state chief secretary, a copy of which was made available to the Press, the union said if the Act was implemented in the state, the labourers would get Rs 80 per day against the existing Rs 60 per day.

The union resented that despite cooperating with the state government in every field, the later had failed to meet its demands, especially the hike in pay as per the national floor level.

Pointing out that authorities were regularising services of senior work charged workers without maintaining the norms enshrined in the PWD manual and service rules, the union urged for regularisation according to norms.

Citing High Court directives, the union also appealed for inclusion of Sundays in the payroll of casual workers who were getting paid only for 26 days in a month.

The union further urged the state government to include medical reimbursement facilities to casual workers.
