Srinagar, Feb 11 (UNI) Night remained cold in the Kashmir valley with minus 6.2 degree Celsius in Srinagar and minus 10 degree at Pahalgam while Leh was coldest after the temperature dipped to minus 24 degree.
Majority of roads in the far flung and remote areas remained cut off due to snow while people faced power and water crisis after water tapes and sources were frozen.
People in the summer capital, Srinagar, continued to shiver after the minimum temperature this morning was recorded at minus 6.2 degree, second coldest in February as yesterday it was minus 6.3 degree.
Water tapes in many areas were frozen, affecting water supply.
However, the frozen tapes started defreezing as the day progressed.
A report from Charar-e-Sharief said Chrawani faced acute water shortage after recent snow damaged water source and water pipes.
It said roads to about a dozen villages, including Tujan, Kakoring, Hayatpora, Dardpora and Tilsur remained closed as no snow clearance operation was conducted there.
Pahalgam, base camp of Amarnath cave and most attractive summer tourist destination in south Kashmir, was coldest in the valley where minimum temperature dipped to minus ten degrees.
The weather office here said clear weather during the night resulted in considerable drop in the minimum temperature. However, day was warm with above normal temperature.
However, Leh in Ladakh region was coldest in the state with mercury dipping to minus 24 degrees in the morning, affecting normal life.
Kargil and Drass, the second coldest place in the world after Siberia also remained cold with both night and day temperature recorded at below freezing point.
