Lalu was greeted with blackflag by pro-kannada organisations

Bangalore, Feb 11 (UNI) City police today arrested over 30 activists of Karantaka Rakshana Vedike (KRS) who tried to stage protest against Union Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad, when he arrived to inaugurate Model Station at Yesvanthpur Railway Station here today.

The activists were rounded-up by the police when they tried to enter the Railway station where Railway Minister was to attend a function.

The activists were protesting against South Western Railways not showing step motherly activities in appointing locals in Group-D recruitment.

Later strongly defending the recruitment process the Railway Minister has said that it was being done on All-India basis in which every Indian was eligible to get an opportunity to recruited and Railways was not biased against Kannagidas.

He condemned the recent attack on North Indians by the Maharashtra Navanirman Samithi activists in Mumbai. "Maharashtra is for all the Indians like any other states," Mr Prasad added.

Adampur records minus 1.6 degrees Celsius

Chandigarh, Feb 11 (UNI) There was no let up in the cold wave sweeping the north-west India for more than a month as the mercury hovered low at most places, touching minus 1.6 degrees celsius at Adampur in Punjab. Chilly winds swept Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh as the night temperatures stayed two degrees to eight degrees Celsius below normal. A bright sunshine greeted people in the region but afforded them little warmth. Cold wave.....

Night remain cold while day a bit warm in Kashmir, Leh minus 24

Srinagar, Feb 11 (UNI) Night remained cold in the Kashmir valley with minus 6.2 degree Celsius in Srinagar and minus 10 degree at Pahalgam while Leh was coldest after the temperature dipped to minus 24 degree. Majority of roads in the far flung and remote areas remained cut off due to snow while people faced power and water crisis after water tapes and sources were frozen.
