Grand celebration at city zoo as ''Nikita'' turns 16

Lucknow, Feb 11 (UNI) Children sang birthday songs and a special cake was cut as Nikita turned 16 today.

And the venue for the birthday party was the state capital's zoo as Nikita is a female chimpanzee.

The zoo, which usually remains closed on Mondays, was specially kept open.

There was a grand celebration. Children assembled in large numbers to wish her a long life with claps and birthday songs.

Zoo director Renu Singh cut the cake, with 16 candles, and gave it to Nikita.

In an act of appreciation, Nikita also showed her teeth.

She and her male companion, Jaison, were surprised to see their cage decorated with colourful balloons and streamers.

The feast comprised several mouth watering dishes which were ''served'' to other animals too.

Born on February 11, 1992, Nikita, was brought here from a zoo in Mysore.

Night remain cold while day a bit warm in Kashmir, Leh minus 24

Two CRPF jawans killed, 9 injured in Kashmir accident

Srinagar, Feb 11 (UNI) Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans were killed and nine others injured in a road accident at Pantha Chowk on Srinagar-Jammu national highway early this morning.
