Kathmandu, Feb 8: Dr Amit Kumar, the arrested kingpin of the recently unearthed kidney racket, was brought here early this morning by a special team of the city police. He is presently at Hanumandhoka police station and is being interrogated by the Nepal police.
It was not clear whether Dr Kumar will be charged for crimes in Nepal or will be handed over to Indian police, the Himalyan Times reported. Dr Kumar was nabbed at 1700 hrs (local time) last evening from a Sauraha-based hotel in Chitwan district close to the Indo-Nepal border. The police also arrested one of his close aides, Manish Singh. Kantipuronline reported that police also seized a bank draft of Rs 9,36,000, and 1,45,000 euros and 18,900 dollars in cash from them.
The two were arrested on a tip-off by employees of the hotel in Chitwan.
Interpol had issued a red corner notice against Dr Kumar recently, after the Indian Police unearthed the organised kidney racket spread across at least five states-- Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana-- besides Nepal.
