New Delhi, Feb 7 (UNI) The Kerala government has told the Supreme Court it was in favour of allowing entry of women, regardless of age, into the famous Sabarimala Temple.
In an affidavit before the apex court, the Kerala government said it was not fair to deny women entry into the temple for worshipping.
The court had asked the government to respond to a PIL, highlighting the discrimination. The state government said it believed in strong liberal principles and supported the demand for entry of all women.
It pointed out in earlier times, women were not allowed as the temple was in a dense forest and it was not safe for them.
Earlier, the temple management had opposed to any change in the tradition.
