Traditional music attracts foreigners to India

Bhopal, Feb 7, 2008: Attracted by Indian classical music, scores of foreigners are undertaking lessons to gain mastery in the traditional music form in central Bhopal city in India's Madhya Pradesh.

The sounds of sitar- a stringed classical instrument accompanied by the renditions of 'ragas' or classical compositions are attracting more and more foreigners who come to 'Dhrupad Sansthan' to learn music in a traditional setting.

Kannur, Nov 23: Austrian Music Composer Gunter F Gossler has said his next opera, ''God of the World'', will be presented soon in India. Bush calls for release of Cuban prisoners

Washington, Oct 11: President George W Bush marked Hispanic heritage month by calling on Cuba to release political prisoners and showcasing a prominent Cuban musician. At a Rose Garden event yesterday, Bush pulled Yamile Llanes Labrada on stage and called for Cuba to release her husband Luis Garcia Paneque. Garcia was arrested in 2003 as part of a group of activists imprisoned for non-violent dissident activities, the White House said. Bush said Garcia, a plastic surgeon, was ill.
