UP govt issues rules for setting up private varsities

Lucknow, Feb 7 (UNI) With a view to expand and strengthen higher education, Uttar Pradesh government today issued rules for establishing private universities in the state.

As per the rules registration under Society Registration Act 1860, Indian Trust Act 1882 or Company Act 1956 would be necessary for the proposing organisation.

It added that a sum of minimum Rs 10 crore would be needed to set up a private varsity.

Besides, there is a stipulation of 50 acre land for establishing institutions, while at least 24 square metre carpet area also vital for the building.

Rawalpindi, Feb 7 : In his meeting with Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) premier Sardar Atteq Ahmed Khan, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on Thursday said that solution to the Kashmir issue should be acceptable to all three parties - the Kashmiris, India and Pakistan. Three killed, 11 injured in bomb explosion in Pakistan's southwest

Peshawar, Feb 7 : At least three people were killed and eleven others were injured when a bomb exploded near a bus stand in Dera Murad Jamali, a town about 300 kilometres southeast of Quetta. According to police the bomb exploded prematurely. The police told a foreign news agency that the bomb exploded when the bomber was trying to place the explosives in a sewerage drain.
