Mumbai, Feb 7 (UNI) A section of the city taxi union has threatened to go on indefinite strike if the violence against drivers did not stop.
''The violence against our people continues unabated, and they are still being targetted by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers,'' Mumbai Airport Taxi Union president Kanhaiya Singh claimed.
''If the situation remains the same and the government does not act, we will have no option but to go on indefinite strike,'' he added.
''Even today when Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister R R Patil was assuring a union delagation that the government was committed to the safety and security of the taximen in the city, MNS workers were thrashing a helpless cabby at Mumbai Central,'' he said.
The union leader said though the flash strike was called off, some 50 per cent of the taxis remained parked at several places, including the airport, apprehending violence.
