SP gears up to corner Maya's govt in Budget session

Lucknow, Feb 7: The main opposition Samajwadi Party today said it would seek to put the Mayawati government on the mat by raising several issues raging from the Value Added Tax (VAT) to students , problems of cane growers and woes of the farmers in drought-hit Bundelkhand region of the state during the budget session of state legislature commencing Feb 7.

''The party members in both the houses would not relent to voice their concern over the plight of various sections of the society in Mayawati regime,'' SP General secretary Shivpal Singh Yadav today announced at a press conference, after party's legislature party meeting held earlier under the chairmanship of party president Mulayam Singh Yadav.

He said the legislature party was of the view that the Mayawati government had been apatheic towards the various problems of the people of the state. The plight of farmers in Bundelkhand region as well as the police firing on the students were some of the examples of high handed ness of the government.

''The party members would raise all these issues besides implementation of VAT in the state and other people related matters in both the houses of the state legislature and would expose the present government,'' he said.

Sharing concern over the pathetic condition in Bundelkhand districts of the state due to drought-like conditions, Mr Yadav said, each of the party legislators have decided to contribute Rs 10,000 towards the relief of farmers there. ''This money would be made available to the Governor T V Rajeswar to be used for the people of that region,'' he said.

In addition to it the party has also decided to extend financial help to the family of Mukesh Kumar, the student who was killed in police firing in Etawah during students agitation. Also the family of Ranvijay, who had attempted self-immolation at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, would be helped by the party.
