Sania's meeting with President cancelled

New Delhi, Feb 7: Sania Mirza's scheduled meeting with President Pratibha Patil on Thursday was called off after the tennis ace was rendered indisposed.

Sania, who stunned the nation by deciding against playing in India to avoid controversies. Her decision had evoked much criticism from different corners. She was scheduled to meet the President on Thursday at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. However, the tennis star is indisposed, a Rashtrapati Bhawan spokesman.

New Delhi, July 23: Riding on her semi-final appearance in the Cincinnati Open last week, her best in the season so far, Sania Mirza climbed up three rungs to 35th in the latest WTA rankings issued today. Sania was beaten 2-6, 7-5, 3-6 by top seed Anna Chakvetadze of Russia in the last four at Cincinnati open. Sania, who won the doubles title partnering Bethanie Mettack of the US, her second this year, also.....

Cincinnati (US) July 21: Third seed Sania Mirza put up a ruthless display against Belarussian Olga Govortsova to breeze into her first-ever singles semifinal at the 175,000 dollar Cincinnati Open tennis tournament here. It took the 38th ranked Sania only 51 minutes to dispatch Govortsova 6-1 6-1 in the quarterfinal of the WTA Tier III tournament.
