Ponting believes Gilly is ready to attack the opposition one last time

Sydney, Feb.7 : Australian captain Ricky Ponting believes that outgoing wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist would like to finish off his international career by putting the opposition to the sword one last time.

"I think it would be pretty hard to tell Gilly to have a rest through this Commonwealth Bank series. It's his last hurrah if you like. We certainly want to make sure we are doing the right thing by Gilly and make sure he goes out on the right note," smh.com.au quoted Ponting as saying today ahead of tomorrow's clash with Sri Lanka at the SCG.

"He is just enjoying every game and every training session that we have. Speaking to him over the last few days, now that he has made his decision, he feels like he has a weight off his shoulders and he can just go about his business and his training and games and enjoy himself.

Asked if Gilchrist had another magical century left in him to rival the swashbuckling 149 off 104 balls in last year's World Cup final against Sri Lanka, Ponting said: "It will happen somewhere.

"Gilly is that sort of player anyway. When he gets in there and relaxes, anything is possible," Ponting added.
