Nicholas Piramal launches device for hypertension

Hyderabad, Feb 7 (UNI) Nicholas Piramal India Limited (NPIL), one of India's leading pharmaceutical companies, today launched 'RESPeRATE' to fight hypertension.

In a statement here, NPIL Strategic Alliances and Communications Director Swati Piramal said RESPeRATE was a patented product developed on the principles of 'pranayama'. It was the first and only medical device cleared by the US FDA for adjunctive treatment for hypertension.

RESPeRATE was a portable electronic device that helped to lower blood pressure naturally by enabling the patient to quickly harness the power of paced breathing. Scientific studies had shown that paced breathing, if done effortlessly, could lower the blood pressure significantly by relaxing the muscles surrounding constricted blood vessels, Ms Piramal said.

It was the only medical device for high blood pressure treatment, using patented Interactive Respiratory Pacing technology.

''RESPeRATE was a perfect fit within our health solutions portfolio. It complements well with our existing pharmacy product offerings,'' she said.

RESPeRATE is manufactured by Intercure Ltd, an Israeli company founded in 1997 headquartered in Fort Lee, New Jersey.
