MNS leader shot dead in Pune

Pune, Feb 7 (UNI) Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) taluka president Anna Laxman Bandal alias Sandeep was shot dead by unidentified persons in Suburban Kothrud here today.

Police said Bandal, who was president of Bhoir taluka in the district, had come to the city to meet his uncle and the incident took place after he was returning.

Bandal was an estate agent, police said adding the motive behind the murder was still to be ascertained.

''It could be business rivalry but this aspect has to be checked, police sources said.

Siliguri, Feb 7 (UNI) Altogether 63 activists of Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) today began an indefinite hunger strike in three hill sub-divisions demanding scraping of the 6th Schedule status for Darjeeling. The agitators, sat in batches of 21 each at Darjeeling, Kurseong, and Kalinpong, displayed placards demanding no further extension to Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council's caretaker Chairman Subash Ghising, whose present term expired on March 23. Jumbo trampled to death a woodpicker

Siliguri, Feb 7 (UNI) A 58-year-old woodpicker was today trampled to death by a hard of elephants in the reserved forest of Baikantapur, at the outskirt of this commercial town, forest official said. K'taka Governor withdraws AP Council member's nomination

Bangalore, Feb 7 (UNI) Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur today withdrew the nomination of Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Council member Rajalakshmi to the Syndicate of State Women's University. An order to this effect was issued by the Governor, who is also Chancellor of the Universities in the State, according to a Raj Bhavan communique here.
