Mayawati seeks removal of Delhi LG over statement on North Indians

Lucknow, Feb 7 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati today shot off a letter to the Prime Minister seeking the removal of Delhi Lieutenant Governor Tejinder Khanna for his reported statement against north Indians.

In her letter to Dr Manmohan Singh, Ms Mayawati said the statement of the Delhi LG has hurt the sentiments of North Indians who had been working in various parts of the country and fuelling the economic engine with their hard work and dedication.

The Delhi LG had triggered off a controversy after he reportedly issued a statement saying that North Indians are more involved in violating law and order in the country.

Mr Khanna had said North Indians take pride in violating law and order whereas the South Indians are more careful in maintaining law. He appreciated the traffic discipline in southern states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

This is not the first time Mr Khanna has sparked off a controversy.

He was in the eye of a storm when he said that people in Delhi will have to carry ID proof when they step out of their homes. he had later retracted his statement.
