K'taka Governor withdraws AP Council member's nomination

Bangalore, Feb 7 (UNI) Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur today withdrew the nomination of Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Council member Rajalakshmi to the Syndicate of State Women's University.

An order to this effect was issued by the Governor, who is also Chancellor of the Universities in the State, according to a Raj Bhavan communique here.

The nomination of Ms Rajalakshmi had received a widespread criticism from political leaders and pro-Kannada activists.

Mysore, Feb 7 (UNI) The National Women Commission (NWC) has sought amendment to the Indian Penal Code (IPC) to make it more gender sensitive and provid for stringent punishment for crimes against women, NWC member Nirmala Venkatesh said today. Panaji, Feb 7 (UNI) Chief Minister Digamber Kamat has directed police officials to tighten security at crowded places, especially beaches, of the state as a precautionary measure, as two suspected terrorists from Hyderabad and Karnataka went unnoticed despite their stay in the city guesthouse. Riyazuddin Nasir from Hyderabad and Asadullah Basha from Hospet, who are suspected to have masterminded a plan to blow-up crowded beaches in the northern parts of Goa on the night.....

Environment Ministry not happy with state of CDM market

New Delhi, Feb 7 (UNI) Union Environment and Forests Secretary Meena Gupta today called for correction of the Clean development Mechanism (CDM) market to make it more meaningful in mitigating carbon emissions. ''In today's CDM market, there are many imperfection like high transaction costs and exclusion of small and medium scale industries which needed to be removed,'' she said.
