Kidney scandal Indian doctor Amit Kumar came to Nepal: Media

Kathmandu, Feb 7 (UNI) Nepal police have said kidney scandal kingpin Dr Amit Kumar stayed in a Hotel in Nepal on January 28, The Himalayan Times reported today.

Police said Dr Amit Kumar (passport number Z047537) stayed in Hotel Radission, Lazimpat.

However, the Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) did not confirm it, but said it had information about his stay in the hotel in September.

According to the passport, his birth date is July 26, 1967, the paper said. ''Efforts are on to nab Amit and we are gathering information about his possible hide-outs in the City,'' SSP Upendra Kanta Aryal said.

Meanwhile, Ramdev Pandey, ex-owner of the Badrinath Guest House at Gongabu, said an Indian named Yaspal Sharma had come to meet him before Dashain to buy his guest house.

''I don't know whether he was Amit Kumar. I heard from the media that he is accountant of Amit,'' he said, adding Sharma told him he had a hospital in India and wanted to establish one in Nepal.

Nepal Police have said it has identified the Nepali agent who worked for the Indian kidney racket allegedly run by Dr Amit Kumar and his brother Jeevan Kumar.

Meanwhile, the person who was working as the Nepali agent has been identified as Pankaj Jha, the police said today, but refused to give details about him.

''Based on our intelligence, we are sure he is involved in the racket,'' a police official said, insisting anonymity.

It was reported that more than 70 workers of the garment factories on the outskirts of Kathmandu were taken to India to take out their kidneys.
