India-Denmark to enhance bilateral cooperation

New Delhi, Feb 7: India and Denmark have signed three pacts to enhance cooperation in trade, renewal energy and environmental issues here on Wednesday.

The pacts were signed after delegation level talks headed by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and his Danish counterpart Anders Fogh Rasmussen. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between India and Denmark for cooperation in new and renewable energy technology. The two countries also agreed on an arrangement on Gainful Employment for Family Members of the Diplomatic Mission or Consular Post. Bilateral trade between India and Denmark was at 885 million dollars in 2006 and there is considerable potential for further growth.

An External Affairs Ministry spokesperson said the pacts include an agreement to set up a joint commission for cooperation, which will develop ties in wide-range of areas including economic, political, commercial, science and technology, culture, energy and environment.

Rasmussen is on a five-day visit to India.

Nordic nations sound alarm over melting Arctic

Oslo, Oct 31: Nordic nations sounded the alarm on Wednesday about a quickening melt of Arctic ice and said the thaw might soon prove irreversible because of global warming. Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway and Iceland also urged all governments to agree before the end of 2009 a broader UN plan to curb greenhouse gases in succession to the Kyoto Protocol. ''The Arctic and the world cannot wait any longer,'' environment ministers from the five nations said in a joint statement after talks.....
