BJP wants Delhi Gov to be cautious while expressing views

New Delhi, Feb 7 (UNI) Taking exception to the statement of Delhi Lt Governor Tejinder Khanna framing northern Indians as ''less law abiding'' than their southern counterparts, the BJP today asked people occupying top Constitutional posts to be cautious while expressing their views.

While BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar merely gave out the party's advice to the Lt. Governor, the other spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy, said Mr Khanna is a representative of the Government of India and therefore the Government should ''make him apologise for his statement or else take action against him for this indiscretion.'' Mr Khanna, while speaking at a meeting organised by Traffic Wing of the Delhi Police this morning, had observed that the people in the North tend to violate law and also take pride in it.

Mr Rudy also reminded that the Lt Governor, under severe attack from all quarters, had to take back his ''controversial remarks'' recently on making identification cards compulsory for all in Delhi.

Parliament adopts Foreign Languages Bill

New Delhi, Dec 12: Parliament today adopted the English and Foreign Languages University Bill 2006 providing for establishing and incorporating a teaching university for promotion and development of English and other foreign languages. The Bill, which was passed in the Lok Sabha today and in the Rajya Sabha earlier, was supported by all the 16 MPs who spoke on the Bill cutting across party lines.
