BJP councillor among 3 booked for abetment of suicide

Nagpur, Feb 7 (UNI) A BJP councillor was among the three persons booked for allegedly abetting the suicide of her husband here today.

According to the police, an offence has been registered against BJP councillor Sandhya Makode (35) and her relatives Ramesh Wasudev Madane (45) and Bandu Parvat Tumane (40), in connection with the suicide of Sandhya's husband Dilip Manohar Makode (42). Dilip consumed a poisonous substance to end his life on January 31, a police release said.

Sandhya, Madane and Tumane together were trying to pressurise Dilip into transferring all his property in his wife's name. With this intention, they had even abused Dilip and threatened him with dire consequences, after which he took the extreme step, it said.

On the basis of a complaint filed by Dilip's father, Manohar Anandrao Makode, an offence was registered against the three under sections 306 (abetment of suicide), 294 (obscene acts and songs), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), it added.

The police did not say how Madane and Tumane were related to Sandhya.
