Guwahati, Feb 7 (UNI) An Air India flight with 82 passengers on board made an emergency landing at the Guwahati airport today after being hit by a bird while approaching the airport.

Two tyres of the plane busted during landing, though no person was injured in the incident, Airport Director R Biraswamy said.

The pilot of the Kolkata-Guwahati flight reported of suspected bird hit a little before reaching the airport.

The aeroplane made an emergency landing, using only its left landing gear as the right landing gear was damaged in the bird hit.

An airlines spokesman in Kolkata said the Airbus-320 of flight of IC-229 with 82 passengers made an emergency but safe landing after the avian hit.

The runway of the Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport was clsoed for about two hours after the incident occurred at 1200 hours.

Three aircraft that were ready to take off at the time of the emergency landing had to be delayed.

Other Guwahati-bound flights were also not given clearance, while some flights that were mid-air while the incident occurred had to be diverted to other airports and were later flown back to Guwahati.

Air traffic was resumed at 1355 hours after the aeroplane was moved, Mr Biraswamy said.
