Ban in place, Russia imports tea, coffee from India

New Delhi, Feb 7 (UNI) Russia has not imposed any ban on import of tea and coffee from India, as reported, but has kept three ports open for the purpose through which the trade is continuing, sources said here today.

The three ports include two at Saint Petersburg and one at Kaliningrad.

The ban on import of other agrculture items, however, is in place but is temporary, the sources added.

Russia imposed a ban on agricultural imports from India following the discovery of a carp beetle in a rice consignment.

India took strong exception to the ban but Russia insisted on foolproof fumigation procedures before lifting the ban.

Parliament adopts Foreign Languages Bill

New Delhi, Dec 12: Parliament today adopted the English and Foreign Languages University Bill 2006 providing for establishing and incorporating a teaching university for promotion and development of English and other foreign languages. The Bill, which was passed in the Lok Sabha today and in the Rajya Sabha earlier, was supported by all the 16 MPs who spoke on the Bill cutting across party lines.
